In an effort to boost tourism, the Angkor Institute has announced that it will eliminate certain tourist information requirements, such as photos, nationality, age, and gender, for one-day entry tickets to Angkor. This change is set to take effect at the end of September 2024.

The decision was made during a Board of Directors meeting on August 27, 2024, chaired by Mr. Aun Porn Moniroth, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Economy and Finance. The aim is to simplify the process for tourists.

The key decisions from the meeting are as follows:

  1. One-Day Tickets: Eliminate the need for tourist information such as photos, nationality, age, and gender for one-day Angkor tickets starting at the end of September 2024.
  2. Three-Day and Seven-Day Tickets: Continue requiring guest photos for these tickets until the end of 2024.
  3. **Control System Modification: **Reduce the number of checkpoints to just the temple entrances, eliminating them at the four main entrances.
  4. Technology Development: Develop a new information technology system for ticket sales, including self-service machines, a mobile app, and the promotion of electronic payments.
  5. Hand-Worn Ticket Forms: Study the implementation of hand-worn ticket forms to simplify visitor check-ins.
  6. Joint Working Group: Establish a group to review and study the second phase of ticket sale reforms, which will involve selling tickets for groups of temples. This reform is planned to start on January 1, 2025.
